15 Inspiring Fabric Combinations

by

I wish that my career as an interior designer allowed me even more time to play around with fabric combinations for client presentations, but more of my hours are actually spent project managing and dealing with paperwork than anything else!   (I think it sounds a lot more glamorous to people outside of the industry than it actually is, in that respect.)  My favorite part of designing a room is mixing fabric colors and patterns and putting it together with the right furniture and accessories, so I’m always happiest at the beginning of a new project when I get to do this for a client.  Below are some of my favorite mood boards that I’ve assembled, including original paintings from my vintage art shop and One Kings Lane shop, a few vintage textiles, and fabric swatches in a variety of patterns, stripes and textures from some of my favorite fabric designers.  I think you’ll be able to tell that I’m always a fan of blue & green, but I mixed in some other great color palettes as well!

  1. Hi! Where can I purchase the blue/white fabric in the top left corner of the 8th board? The board with blue coral on it.

    • Hello Kim – Here are the manufacturers for each fabric. You will probably need to have a resale account set up for each vendor to place an order, or order through a designer. Please let me know if you need help placing an order. Thanks!

top right brown & white: Rogers & Goffigon
      large main green floral: Jasper
pale green & white greek key: Katie Leede
      turquoise stripe: Wal fab
      olive green stripe: Bennison

    • Hi Chris – I’m glad you like them! I’m not in my office so I can’t tell you the names, but I can tell you the brands for each, and they should be pretty easy to find online since most of these fabric lines are fairly small. Please let me know if you need the help of a designer for ordering them for you!

board 14, clockwise from top left: Peter Fasano, Kerry Joyce, Quatrine, Michaelian & Kohlberg, Cowtan & Tout stripe. Small blue swatch is Pottery Barn and carpet is Berwick Tweed from Karastan.
board 15, clockwise from top left: Katie Leede, Kerry Joyce, Katie Leede, carpet from Karastan, Peter Dunham.

    • Hi Bobbi,

I don’t have all of the names on me, but I can tell you the sources:)

      board 5:
The bird painting is available on Chairish: https://www.chairish.com/product/635404/mid-century-perch-oil-painting
The wallpaper is a William Morris design. I think it’s the “honeysuckle” pattern.
All plaids are from Holland & Sherry or Cowtan & Tout.
Carpet sample is Beriwck Tweed from Karastan.
Paisley fabric is from Les Indiennes.

board 10, sort of in clockwise order from top:
      Stripe from Malabar
      Blue/coral print from Peter Dunham
      Coral print from Carolina Irving
      Bird print from Katie Leede
Small blue paisley from Peter Dunham
Suzani blue flower fabric from Jasper

      I hope that helps!
